Long Battery Life: The Major Benefits of LRS

Now there is a quiet revolution going on with Pagers and it's something that will change the way you work and operate your paging system forever. Examine how LRS is adding Li-ion batteries and how they will help improve communications on-site whatever business you are involved in.

The truth is, that with many paging systems batteries play a major role, if the batteries used in the pagers or bleepers that you use then it's likely that you will already be suffering from pager battery blues! Many of the systems in the market use either regular 'throw away' AAA batteries, or rechargeable batteries and those come with major issues. And even the Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries can have issues if not managed properly.

But there is a new style battery that has been slowly integrated in to LRS pagers that can improve pager operation and life dramatically - its called Lithium-Ion.

As you can see below, the Li-ion are substantially better overall than the older style of batteries. And the good news is that LRS has been quietly updating the battery types used at no extra cost - as well as introducing new products that take advantage of the Lithium Ion technology.

One new unit is the 2026 AP-2 Alphanumeric pager including the rechargeable Li-ion battery and our latest SP6 also with Lithium-ion. These can charge in just 4 hours and operate for days out performing alternative choices in these tough operating conditions.

These brand new devices (along with the brand new server/staff/runner SP6 pager is powered by Lithium Ion and really moves the LRS alpha text messaging and staff paging forward compared to older units and beats competitive products in many areas including our 3 year warranty we offer as standard.

OLD AAA, RECHARGEABLE AND SOME NI-MH BATTERIES

As many users will be familiar, typical AAA batteries whether rechargeable or throw away can vary dramatically in quality and the cost difference can be huge. For some Ni-MH rechargeable batteries there can be issues that need management such as ensuring that the battery has to be on charge when not in use.

TYPICAL PROBLEMS

  • Constant purchase of throw away AAA batteries
  • Paying staff to maintain devices, check batteries, change them
  • Disposal of end of life batteries
  • Constant always on charge when not in use
  • Battery leakage of disposable batteries that damage the pager
  • Losing battery covers
  • Unreliable units because of battery failures
  • Longer term purchase of rechargeable batteries

As you can see in this short list, there can be multiple issues with batteries of these kinds, reduced considerably by the use of Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, but those have to be managed properly otherwise issues can exist also. ALL Ni-MH batteries are similar - even if the supplier might suggest otherwise. Now there's a new generation of battery technology that moves paging technology forward in a big way - read about it below!

LITHIUM ION BATTERY ADVANTAGES

There are many LRS products that include Li-ion and not all are shown here. However, devices that don't have Li-ion batteries are part of the LRS roadmap to move to the Li-ion new technology.

ADVANTAGES OF LITHIUM ION

  • Devices can be 'off charge' and they retain the charge over long periods
  • Reduced maintenance and longer life if maintained properly
  • Reduced disposal rates of old batteries
  • reduced operating costs of the paging system
  • Clean consistent power that can extend the life of the device
  • Less time checking pager batteries or changing them
  • Reduced use of electricity when no need to be on charge constantly
  • Less deterioration from constant use
  • Thousands of reliable charge cycles over many years

The advantages of Li-ion batteries are worth the effort and LRS is constantly updating equipment for the latest technology.
